미래 예술을 선도하여 인류사회 발전에 기여하는 서울예술대학교가 되겠습니다.

급격한 디지털 융합으로 인한 초(超)연결 시대는 일상의 삶을 혁신적으로 변모시켜가고 있으며, 이러한 변화는 예술교육과 예술창조에도 커다란 영향을 주고 있습니다. 이에, 우리대학은 시대적 상황을 선도하고 미래 예술과 문화산업의 변화에 혁신적으로 대응할 수 있는 교육 시스템을 구축해 나갈 것입니다.

그럼에도 불구하고 모든 구성원이 한마음으로 이러한 위기에 적절히 대응함으로써 위기를 잘 넘겼을 뿐만 아니라 위기로 말미암아 대학의 디지털변이(Digital Transformation)를 앞당기며 새로운 기회로 여기는 변화가 일어난 한 해이기도 했습니다.

그 일환으로 우리대학은 대학발전 4대지표(세계적 교육창작환경 구축, 연계·순환·통합교육, 산학협력 강화, 예술과 과학의 접목)에 부가하여 ‘자연과 생명의 본질을 향한 예술창작’을 강화함으로써 학생들이 예술창조에 요구되는 논리적 분석과 철학적 사고력을 함양하도록 하고, 학문간 연계·융합교육 및 현장중심 예술창작 방법론을 고도화하여 세계와 호흡하는 예술인을 육성하고자 합니다.

예술창작과 기술융합의 국제적 커뮤니티인 서울예술대학교 글로벌 컬처허브의 기능과 역할을 확장하고, 우리대학 교수 및 학생교류, 학점 및 학위 공유, 유학생 유치를 강화시킴으로써, 우리대학을 글로벌 예술교육 및 창작의 중심으로 발전시켜 갈 것입니다.

이러한 과정에서 우선 되어야 할 것은 우리대학의 역사와 전통에 기반한 ‘서울예술대학교의 학풍(學風)’을 보다 공고히 하는 것입니다. 우리대학 구성원 모두는 서울예술대학교가 문화예술의 위대함을 선각(先覺)하여 국가발전에 필요한 인재 양성을 이끌어온 학교라는 자긍심을 드높이고, 집단적 통념과 견해 상충 등에 따른 갈등은 상호 존중과 경애심으로 극복하는 ‘Oneness(하나됨)’ 정신으로 아름다운 학교를 만들어 나갈 것입니다.

We have opened new horizons for future-oriented arts education by integrating the arts and technology, to promote a new template for the arts.

In 2020, for the first time in our institute’s history, we were unable to hold our entrance and graduation ceremonies due to the unexpected COVID-19 outbreak. Subsequently, we faced a major crisis because lecture and practical studio classes were forced to be conducted online.

The entire institute came together to overcome the challenges of moving courses online. These transitions accelerated the digital transformation of our institute and we viewed this shift as a new opportunity.

Seoul Institute of the Art – Cultural Epicenter

The year 2022 will be the 60th anniversary of Seoul Institute of the Arts. Our founding doctrine was established to educate students of our nation’s inherent artistic essence and provide training so that they may recreate and globalize the spirit through art making. Many of those who have received the unique education have gone on to be leaders in the artistic fields of performance and media. In the 1980’s, through the project , SeoulArts organised it’s own system of art making methodologies in education. The system based that art is created using the elements of . The convergence of the ideas can lead to new forms of artistic expression. In addition, with the CultureHub network of New York, Los Angeles, Umbria (Italy), and Bandung (Indonesia), SeoulArts is able to stand as a cultural epicenter and keep up with cultural trends of the world.

Time – Space – Rhythm – Energy

This Annual Review will look back at the year 2020 in the context of time, space, rhythm, and energy. We have highlighted events in chronological order. Physical space has changed to support artistic activity. The artistic activity was documented rhythmically with narrative structure.

The energy of social impact that was made by the people who participated in the artistic activity was presented.

New digital technologies are changing the way we live on a daily basis. Content that was viewed through broadcast or in theaters are now delivered to any location and anytime on mobile devices using streaming technologies and on 5G networks. Due to Corona, performances are going beyond the theater and watched remotely using extended reality and virtual technologies. We must now adapt our curriculum to educate through transdisciplinary methods and produce cutting-edge contents.

We will record and present the past but we will also dream of the future 6o years with the belief that “a pupil can excel his master” and “a son can excel his father.”
