강남대학교는 1946년 경천애인의 창학 이념으로 개교한 이래 1976년 강남사회복지학교, 1989년 강남대학을 거쳐 1992년 종합대학으로 성장하여 지금까지 교양인 양성, 전문인 양성, 봉사인 양성이라는 교육목표를 가지고 한국사회 발전의 원동력이 될 인재, 나눔과 상생을 실천하는 인재, 인성이 바른 품격 있는 인재를 양성해 왔습니다.

특히 1990년대와 2000년대 양적 팽창과 질적 성장의 시기를 거쳐 급변하는 시대의 흐름과 교육시장의 변화에 능동적으로 대처하고 변화를 주도하기 위하여 전 강남구성원의 헌신과 노력으로 작지만 강한 대학의 이미지를 키워가고 있습니다.

이러한 노력으로 강남대학교는 5년 연속 수도권 대학특성화지원사업 선정, 4년 연속 대학교육역량강화사업 지원대학과 입학사정관제지원 대학에 선정되었습니다. 또한, 노동부 일자리지원사업, 청소년직장 체험프로그램 지원사업, 대학생 혁신형 중소기업 체험활동 지원사업, 국가근로장학사업, 예술영재교육원 지원사업 등 각종 정책사업에 연이어 선정되는 성과를 달성하기도 하였습니다.

뿐만 아니라 우리 대학과 경기도, 용인시가 공동 설립한 용인지역 특수학교인 용인강남학교 등 명품 캠퍼스구축을 위해 계속 노력하고 있습니다.

그러나 저효율 고비용 구조에 빠진 대한민국 고등교육이 처한 현실과 대응해야 할 미래는 그렇게 녹록지만은 않습니다. 이를 위하여 강남대학교는 혁신적인 학사구조개편과 인사쇄신 및 행정기구개편을 통해 현재의 위기를 극복하기 위한 최선의 노력을 다하고 있습니다.

지속적인 교육체계 개선과 정보화, 국제화 캠퍼스 구축 노력, 대학 및 행정조직 개편의 안정적 정착과 새로운 인사제도 개선방안 도출 등 경영 혁신을 착실하게 추진하여 그간 우리가 추진해온 작지만 강한 대학으로 새롭게 도약할 수 있는 기반을 계속 다져 나갈것 입니다.

그리고 이제 우리 강남대학교는 국내는 물론 세계의 우수한 대학들과 학문적인 특성과 역량을 갖고 어깨를 나란히 하는 글로벌 명문대학으로 우뚝 서기 위한 원대한 계획을 가지고 새로운 도약을 준비하고자 합니다.

Kangnam University was founded in 1946 under the founding spirit of gyeongcheonaein (to worship the heavens and cherish humankind) and has been through Kangnam Social Welfare School in 1976, Kangnam College in 1989 and Kangnam University in 1992. KNU has fostered talented individuals who can drive the development of Korean society, practice sharing and coexistence, and demonstrate civilized characteristics with the educational objectives of nurturing civilized individuals, professionals and minds of service.

In particular, passing through the 1990s and 2000s facing quantitative expansion and qualitative growth, we have been building up the image of a small but strong university thanks to the entire KNU faculty, staff and students’ commitment and sincere efforts in order to respond to and lead the rapidly changed society and education market.

Thanks to these efforts, KNU has been selected as participant of Metropolitan-area University Specialization Support Project for 5 consecutive years and as support university of Development Project of University Education Competency and Admission Officer System Support Project for 4 years in a row. And we also have been chosen to participate in various government projects such as Job Support Project by Ministry of Labor, Adolescents Work Experience Program, Innovative Small/Medium Business Experience Program for University Students, National Employee Students Scholarship Project, Support Project for Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts.

In addition, we have strived to establish an excellent campus such as Yongin Special Scoll and Yongin Kangnam School co-founded by KNU, Gyeonggi-do Office and Yongin-si Office.

However, we are now facing the present of low-efficiency-and-high-cost Korean secondary education and we must deal with it in the future ahead. In an attempt to tackle this challenge, KNU is putting utmost effort to overcome the current crisis by reforming academic and administrative system and human resources network.

We will continue to lay the foundation of moving forward with the image of a small but strong university by practicing innovative management such as improving educational/academic/administrative system and introducing advanced IT system and globalized campus as well as reformed human resources network.

And now we have well-established plans and preparation to level with fine universities abroad with academic characteristics and abilities along with local and abroad prestige schools.
